Could Toys R Us go out of business? That's the question everyone seems to be asking since reports started circulating late last week that Toys R Us may shut down all its stores in the United States.
The company filed for bankruptcy protection last fall, but multiple media reports say Toys R Us hasn't been able to find a buyer or reach an agreement with its creditors. In January, Toys R Us announced it would close about 180 stores in the United States, and it looks like the rest could follow.
The good news, at least for now, is that it looks like nothing is changing in Canada.
A spokesperson for Toys R Us Canada told the Canadian Press that business is "operating as usual" at the company's more than 80 stores in Canada, and there won't be changes to the baby registry and R Club loyalty program anytime soon.
Melanie Teed-Murch, the president of Toys R Us and Babies R Us Canada, also released a statement this week saying that all the Canadian stores will remain open for business. You can read the full release here.
