There has been a recall on the Swagway X1 Hands-Free Smartboard Self-Balancing Scooters/Hoverboards potentially overheating and being a burn or fire hazard. Approximately 5000 of these units were sold in Canada.
The lithium-ion battery in the Swagway X1 can overheat, posing a potential burn and fire hazard.
There have been no reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of this product in Canada but there were 42 reports of the battery packs smoking, catching fire and/or exploding, including 16 reports of injuries, such as burns to the neck, leg and arm, or severe property damage in the U.S.A.
We're sure some of our Bargainmoose readers have probably purchased these for their kids. Please also check with anyone you know who has one of these, to see whether or not their product falls under the recall!
Product description:
The Swagway X1 Hands-Free Smartboard brand of self-balancing scooters are included in this recall.
The Swagway brand X1 hoverboard has the word " Swagway" on the front of the hoverboard and comes in gold, black, white, blue, green, red or pink colours.
Hoverboards that have a silver sticker on the bottom with serial numbers 000001-008000 or a white sticker with serial number 020001 or higher are not included in this recall.
The recalled hoverboards were sold from
September 2015 to July 2016 online and at various stores.
What to do if you have one, as recommended by the Healthy Canadians website:
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Swagway LLC to arrange for a repair of the product. For more information, consumers may contact Swagway LLC by telephone toll-free at 1-800-242-0898 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST Monday through Friday or through the company's website by clicking on "Product Recall" under "Information" on the bottom left of the main page.
