Okay, it's been at least a few years since I actually visited a Pier 1 Imports store in Canada. I did, however, stop by one on Christmas Eve when I was in the States a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to buy almost everything in the store, but I ultimately walked out empty-handed – and it seems like many people do the same.
I only remember buying a single item from a Pier 1 store EVER, but I always love browsing their shelves and dreaming about the day I finally redecorate my bedroom and dining room. It's always a little comfort knowing that there is one of their locations near to where I live, but many of those stores are about to disappear.
Pier 1 Imports will close almost half their stores in North America and are reportedly close to filing for bankruptcy. On Monday, the company announced plans to shutter up to 450 of their 942 stores, along with distribution centres. Pier 1 will also lay off corporate employees as part of a general restructuring plan.
It's too soon to know exactly which locations will shut their doors, but I'll try to let you know that information once it's released, along with when we can expect clearance sales and final days you can shop. They still, unfortunately, don't have an online store, so you'll have to head to a physical location to browse and buy.
