Whether you cheer on the Habs or just want to see the Leafs finally hoist the cup again, there's one thing hockey fans can agree on right now: we miss the action. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the suspension and outright cancellation of just about all sports leagues and tournaments around the world, and there's no telling if or when every draft, spring training session and championship match will happen.
However, there's some solace for hockey fans. The NHL has suspended play indefinitely, but that doesn't mean you won't be able to tune in to Hockey Night in Canada this weekend. It'll just be under a different name.
You obviously won't be able to watch live games, but now's the time to brush up on your Canadiana and hockey trivia skills. CBC is transforming their legendary HNIC programming into Movie Night in Canada, where you can catch a double-feature of Canadian films. The full schedule is online, but here are the highlights.
Things kicked off last Saturday with Bon Cop, Bad Cop and its sequel, Bon Cop, Bad Cop 2, but things are a little more on brand this weekend. In just a few short days, you can catch Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story and then Goalie! The movie marathon starts each Saturday at 7 PM and runs until at least April 11. The films are all available on CBC and CBC Gem, and the schedule is subject to change.
