The spout can detach and pose a choking hazard
Contigo Recalls Select Kids' Water Bottles

I know I'm far from the only person here who has at least one cupboard bursting with Contigo water bottles at home. I use one just about every single day, and I rely on their thermoses to get me through hockey games in freezing-cold arenas. I mean, what else will actually keep my coffee hot through three whole periods?

However, you might want to check your inventory, because Contigo recently issued another recall for children's water bottles. As a CTV article states, the company "announced another recall for children’s water bottles due to a choking hazard, reporting additional incidents with the replacement lids provided in a previous recall six months ago for the same issue." It impacts close to six million water bottles across the continent.

Of those, about 157,000 were sold in Canada. According to the recall notice, "the water bottle’s clear silicone spout in some cases may detach from the lid posing a potential choking hazard." The water bottles in question are labelled as Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles and were sold between April 2018 to Feb. 7, 2020. They come in three sizes (13-ounce, 14-ounce and 15-ounce) and different colours.

You might have purchased one of the bottles individually or as part of a multi-pack. If you're looking at any you own, here's what to check for: the affected water bottles all have a BLACK spout cover and spout base.

If you find one with those features, enter your information online to receive a return envelope – so you can mail back your impacted lid. You can also select which replacement option you'd like from a list. Full details are available online, so make sure you read those before you move forward. Processing may take a while.
