Need to rest and recharge after the holidays? You don't need to travel too far to unwind and take a few days off – so we put together a list of some of the best ideas for a winter staycation in Toronto (or a list of things to check out if you're just visiting Toronto)!
Family & Kid-Friendly Staycations
1. Be Tourists in Your Own City
Okay, there's been a lot of debate about the Toronto CityPASS, but it really is worth it! It's basically your ticket to five different local attractions: the CN Tower, Casa Loma, the Royal Ontario Museum, Ripley's Aquarium of Canada and either the Toronto Zoo or the Ontario Science Centre.
They cost $58 for kids aged 4-12 and $86 for adults aged 13+ (plus taxes), so really you're getting admission for five attractions at about 37% off!
To get the most out of your sightseeing tour, they even have a trip planner to help you out!
2. Stay in a Chelsea Hotel Family Fun Suite
This is definitely a bit of a pricey option, but you absolutely get what you pay for! The Chelsea Hotel has rooms specifically designed with kids in mind – like the two-bedroom Family Fun Suites that include a Kid's Corner complete with a DVD, XBOX and free movies and games!
Spend the day at the Family Fun Zone, where you can splash in the pool, race down a waterslide at play all afternoon at the Kid Centre of Club 33 Teen Lounge!
Plus, they even offer a CAA member discount that can get you 10% off your next stay!
3. Drive out to Great Wolf Lodge
Sure, Great Wolf Lodge Niagara Falls is about a 1.5-hour drive out of Toronto, but it's definitely worth it! Spend the day or the weekend racing down the waterslides and make sure you catch a before-bed story time show while you're there!
Until Jan. 16, 2018, you can save up to 30% off your stay when you use the code GETAWAY at checkout! Make sure you take a look at the available dates and offer restrictions before booking.
And one of the best parts? The kids will probably sleep on the ride home!
Romantic Couples' Staycations
1. Spend a Night or Two at The Drake Hotel
This is one of Toronto's most highly recommended staycation hotels, even though it's only been around since 2004 – and I can definitely see why! The Drake Hotel is home to live music, art exhibits and the Sky Yard, one of the absolute best rooftop patios in the city.
The intimate Crash Pad rooms are perfect for couples escaping for the weekend, but there are plenty of other suites to choose from!
And last but definitely not least, you can't go The Drake without hitting up their restaurants and bars. This place is a foodie's dream come true, and you can even book a table-side mixologist!
2. Relax Together at Elmwood Spa
A spa day is one of the best ways to unwind, especially when you can relax together! Elmwood Spa offers all kinds of couples' spa retreat packages, from quick visits to luxurious full-day experiences.
Prices start at $350, and it's an extra $10 to book a private Couples Room, which lets you enjoy side-by-side services in a room designed for two. Plus, these rooms all have fireplaces you can use from October to April!
The Couples Rooms fill up quickly and are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure you request one when you book your visit!
3. Dine Your Way through Winterlicious
This is definitely the one I'd pick! If you've never been to Winterlicious, it's Toronto's Prix Fixe Food Event, and it runs from Jan. 26 to Feb. 8, 2018. Basically, more than 200 local restaurants take part and offer three-course, fixed-price menus to try!
You can search to find the perfect restaurant for your budget, taste and location, and there are vegetarian and vegan menus available. This really is the perfect option if you're looking to plan a few date nights, instead of a weekend away.
Reservations open tomorrow (Jan. 11, 2018), and you can buy Culinary Event Series tickets now!
