Olympic swimming phenom Michael Phelps and his wife Nicole recently announced on Instagram they are expecting again.
Phelps posted a photo of Nicole holding their smiley son Boomer, 1. In his hand, Boomer holds a positive pregnancy test. The caption: “Number 2 on the way!!!! So excited!! Wonder if it's a boy or a girl??”
It seems social media is a great way to announce big news like a pregnancy to so many people at once. Beyonce nearly broke the internet when she posted a photo on Instagram to announce she was expecting twins. Lauren Conrad (remember The Hills?), Kristin Cavallari, Ciara and so many others have also used social media to convey pregnancy news.
Still, I can’t help but feel the trend is becoming more unoriginal the more we use it. I remember friends announcing their pregnancy with a “bun in the oven” Halloween costume. The daddy-to-be came to the Halloween party dressed as a chef doused with flour and she made herself a clever oven costume out of a cardboard box. Now that was an exciting way to announce the news!
How did you announce your pregnancy? Did you do anything memorable or is social media the new standard?
