Thinking of hitting the big city over the March Break? Via Rail has got a fantastic deal if you plan on taking the train. Get kids fares on the Quebec City to Windsor corridor for only $10.
Once you check out Via Rail's site, you'll also see some suggestions for adventures. I love that they put together some ideas and I'm totally considering taking part. My kids love trains and none of them have ever been on one except the Toronto subway system, which is less than thrilling really. I think taking a train to a new city that we've never been is a fantastic idea for a fun little adventure and I don't have to drive! I can actually enjoy the trip too.
Via suggests taking the train from Toronto to Ottawa to visit the Canadian Museum of History. Of course, you'll want to visit the Parliament buildings and all the other great sites to see in Ottawa. For that trip, adults are about $50, so a family of four would make it to Ottawa in less than five hours for a total of $120.
If your child can sit on your lap (under 24 months), they are actually free. This rate is for children aged two to 11.
You'll need to buy your ticket at least three days in advance for this deal and you can buy from now until March 22nd for travel from February 21st to March 29th. This means you don't just have to travel on March Break - you have anytime from now until the end of March to get going where you going. This is also an economy fare.
Also, one adult can buy up to five children's tickets for the $10 price. This means two adults can buy up to 10 children's tickets. I think this is an ok restriction as who would want to travel alone on a train with more than five kids under twelve? Seems like a breakdown waiting to happen! I'm not that brave, personally.
