Have you seen the magnificent BBC series Planet Earth? It's been around for a long time now but every year around Earth Day, because it's top of mind, I love to revisit it with my kids. Narrated by David Attenborough this riveting look at our planet usually sells for around $100, so the chance to pick it up for $36.50 is something worth considering.
Planet Earth is a spectacular 11-part series shot using the top technology of the time—this series was released in 2007, the first of it's kind to be shot in full high definition—and though BBC has released subsequent series over the last 10 years, this original look at our planet remains my favourite.
Some of the 50 episodes included in the Planet Earth series are Oceans Deep, Ice Worlds, Caves and Jungles. These are my kids' faves, but I really love them all!
There are some scenes that are a little scary for small kids, after all it's all about the natural and animal world, which we all know can at times be brutal, but it also provides an excellent avenue for beginning to discuss these topics with your family. My kids are exposed unnatural violence while watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Star Wars! They can handle and appreciate these real life situations more than we give credit for!
The Planet Earth: Special Edition 6-Disk Series qualifies for free shipping and for a limited time only (until April 30), it also qualifies for a buy any qualifying BBC title, and get one 50% off promotion! A great opportunity to pick up one of the other acclaimed BBC natural world series at a super price.
