I am always on the lookout for good laptop deals, as laptops seem to have only a three - five year life cycle. I ran across this Dell Inspiron 15 i3543-2501BLK Signature Edition Laptop on sale from $499 down to $349 with free shipping.
First, I conducted some price comparing. The Dell Inspiron 15 has come in many different configurations, thus you need to make sure you are comparing the same stats. This laptop comes with:
- 15.6-inch (396.24 mm) HD touchscreen
- Intel Core i3-5005U
- 4GB memory
- 1TB HDD
Finding this exact configuration anywhere else was rather hard. I did find the same model, but with a 500GB hard drive, on sale for $399 USD at Walmart.com. I also found the same model with the same configuration on eBay for $349 USD (=$432.40 CA) but they did not ship to Canada. Essentially, my research pretty much supported the notion that this is a pretty good deal on a laptop.
While I think a 1TB hard drive is a bit overkill, this laptop will store anything you need. Have thousands of photos? No problem. Like to download all the digital copies for your movies? This hard drive won't even blink an eye.
The 15.6" HD touchscreen really makes this laptop a winner. It becomes somewhat of a crossbreed between a laptop and a tablet. The fifth-generation Intel Core i3 processor is not the fastest in the world, but it will serve most casual user's needs. A friend of mine has i3 processors in both his desktop and his laptop. They serve his casual Facebooking, Googling, and YouTube-ing needs.
The laptop also features a DVD-RW drive that handles both CDs and DVDs. I know that many companies are doing away with DVD drives, but I still find mine necessary. When I buy CDs from my local music store, I like to download a copy of them onto my iTunes. Sure, music is going digital as well but I still like physical copies to play in my car when I travel.
Overall, I think this deal is good and really works for anyone on a tight budget that needs a new computer. This is a signature edition laptop, which means no junkware or 3rd party trialware is installed on your computer. Essentially, it is clean straight out of the box.
