Life is stressful at the best of times, and meditation may be more important now than ever. As the world tries to manage the COVID-19 outbreak, it's a time of uncertainty, financial instability and overall fear. I can feel my heart rate speeding up just thinking about it, and I stopped typing to put the kettle on and take a breather.
I'm actually having a pretty great day today. I woke up pretty well-rested, I just started a new book, and the sun is shining where I live – so I'm not doing too badly on my fifth day of social isolation. However, I have a feeling being cooped up at home will start to get to me, and I'm looking for distractions just about everywhere.
I was on Instagram this morning and saw someone I follow post about Headspace. If you've never heard of them before, Headspace is a startup that's all about mindfulness and helping folks destress after long days. You can check out their app for a full catalogue of mantras, sleep guides and movement exercises, but they just curated an extra-special collection for people trying to navigate everything that's happening right now.
This set of three meditations is FREE to everyone, so you can try it out on your phone, laptop or tablet. They have ones specifically for relieving stress, walking without leaving your home and when you're feeling overwhelmed. The meditations range from just under a minute to 10 minutes in length, so you can do them throughout your day. They also compiled resources for healthcare professionals, employers and educators.
