Now that the month is almost over, it's time to pack away your Valentine's Day cards and start thinking ahead to the next big event: spring break. If you're not planning a family vacation (or if you don't already have plans for daycare or a babysitter), it can be tough to figure out what the kids will do when they're out of school.
Luckily, a few libraries, community centres and even stores have figured out ways to help. Chapters is one of them, and they plan to offer a whole week's worth of events when your kiddos don't have class. Their Kids' Break Events are completely FREE and should run whenever your school holds their March Break.
Supplies are limited, so make sure you arrive early if you want to take part! Your kids will, of course, need to be companied by an adult to the store. To figure out which activities are happening near you, select your province from the drop-down menu. The dates can vary by area, so make sure you check this out.
MONDAY at 11 AM or 2 PM: For the Artist
It's time to get crafty! Chapters will kick off their Kids' Break Week with a rock-decorating activity featuring Kid Made Modern supplies. But if that's not your thing, you can also stop by the Klutz creation station to play around with Gem Stickers, the Mini Bake Shop and Egg Carton Animals. And for anyone who loves to sketch, you can learn how to draw characters from Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Big Nate and Phoebe the Unicorn.
TUESDAY at 11 AM or 2 PM: For the Gamer
We're talking about all kinds of gamers here – so don't worry if your kids don't have a PlayStation or a Nintendo Switch. On Tuesday, you can stop by Chapters to play Hasbro games, take part in a Beyblade battle or search for Waldo in their Where's Waldo Scavenger Hunt. Plus, you have the chance to bring and potentially trade your Pokémon cards before you face off for a game or build a Pokémon character with Mega Construx.
WEDNESDAY at 11 AM or 2 PM: For the Collector
If your playroom is full of little mini figures, this might just be the event for your family. The kids can swing by Chapters for a LOL Surprise! Lights Glitter demo and collect their own LOL Lil' Sister or Bakugan cards during a giveaway. Details are limited, but you'll definitely have the chance to decorate a Hot Wheels license plate.
THURSDAY at 11 AM or 2 PM: For the Builder
Break out your hardhats, because it's building time! If my niece and nephews were in town, this is the day we'd be at Chapters, because you can make your own LEGO Friends or LEGO City food truck. Little scientists can also take part in fun and easy experiments featuring Slimeygoop Slimey Sand and Fairies vs. Unicorns STEM activities. The only tough part will be trying to fit in everything you want to do!
FRIDAY at 11 AM or 2 PM: For the Dreamer
Love to play pretend? Whether your kiddos are obsessed with Peppa Pig, PAW Patrol or Play-Doh, they'll probably drag you out the door to the last event of the week. You can take part in themed activities, toy demos and even make your own Play-Doh sushi. The only downside is you won't be able to eat it.
These activities are designed for kids of different ages, so I'd check the event descriptions before you mark them on your calendar. And since you'll need something to do while you're at Chapters, know that one of their recurring sales, The Home Event, is happening online and in stores until March 8.
, we should try to get the girls together for one of these!!
yes! Cool idea!!
