If your child is now four years old and 40lbs, you can move them to a booster seat and get rid of that cumbersome car seat. Best Buy has a very sweet deal on the Evenflo high back booster seat, now only $39.99, was $74.99.
Personally, I try to leave my children in car seats as long as I possibly can, because of safety, but I know I am in the minority. Ease of use makes booster seats much more time efficient and handy. Kids are more able to do up their own belts with one click of switch, instead of the often tricky five-point belt. Kids also feel freer and more able to move around, so they will rally to be switched to a booster. It is also much easier to move a booster in and out of a vehicle and to another vehicle, because there is likely no install needed.
In black and grey, this booster will fit nicely in any vehicle with its slim fit and neutral look. What's great about high back boosters is that they offer the head and neck protection that other seat boosters do not. This one even has dual activity lights, so your child can read while being driven at night. That is pretty cool. If you decide the back is too much, it will convert to a backless option too. It has six height positions and cup holders as well.
I'm considering getting this seat for our second vehicle.
