Medela's products certainly aren't cheap. I was recently shocked to discover that a mere bottle costs as much as 4 blizzards at Dairy Queen! Same goes for the pumps but they are worth it and if you have been looking into getting one, then now is your chance because you can currently save $30 on a Medela Swing breastpump and get it for just $199.97 instead of $229.99.
Since I have been striving to exclusively breastfeed for the past couple of weeks, I have been pumping with this exact breast pump and I have to say that it's fantastic! The great part about is that it features a 2-phase expression technology: the first for stimulating the production of milk and the second for expressing the milk. Plus, you can easily regulate the speed of the suction with the help of two buttons.
I also love using the Calma feeding nipple that it comes with as the baby actually has to work for the milk by having to actively suction the milk out, hence making the transition from breast to bottle and vice versa a breeze! Even better is that once you're done pumping, you can just pop the lid on and quickly place the bottle in the fridge -- all before your baby has the chance to unleash a fury of cries! Then, when you're ready to use the bottled breast milk, the Calma nipple easily screws onto the bottle.
The set comes with:
- A breast pump;
- 2 bottles and a bottle stand;
- A Medela Calma nipple;
- A drawstring bag.
This is a great deal and one I wish would have been offered the week that I bought this pump but alas! While Sears sells this same set for $219.99, Walmarthas it for $218.88.
I have to admit that originally I was pretty set on getting the Medela Freestyle breast pump but I'm glad I went with the Swing because on top of being cheaper, I find it's more convenient as it allows me to empty one breast at a time after a feeding, thereby giving the other breast a chance to regenerate the milk supply since I have been told my a nurse that after half an hour, the breasts reproduce about 75% of the milk!
Plus, this breast pump also qualifies for free shipping since Babies R Us (Toys R Us) automatically ships all orders over $25 for free.
