Apple Canada iPhone 5 Current Replacement Programs

This is not exactly a deal post, more of a 'for your information' and 'do not waste money on fixing this yourself because it is covered by Apple' post. If you own an iPhone 5 that has been giving you troubles, you will want to check out Apple's current replacement programs.

1. iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program

Apple has identified an issue with a small percentage of the sleep/wake buttons on iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013. They may stop working or work intermittently. If you are experiencing this frustrating issue with your iPhone 5, Apple is willing to replace the sleep/wake button on your iPhone free of charge. This is not covered under warranty, but is more considered a manufacturer's defect. Thus, your phone does not have to be under warranty to receive this fix. To see if your phone is one of the eligible serial numbers, click through the link above.

 2. iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program

This program just started in the USA, and will be hitting Canada on the 29th of August 2014. Apple has identified that a small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently than they should. These devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013. If you think your phone might have this issue and do not recall exactly when you bought it, be sure to enter your serial number through the link above to see if your phone qualifies. Your phone does not need to be under warranty for this replacement. An Apple replacement battery costs around $100, so this replacement program is good news for anyone having difficulty.

If your phone does need to have either of these replacements, follow the steps given through the links above for the replacement. You will need to do the following steps BEFORE taking your phone in for repairs:

  • Back up your data to iTunes or iCloud
  • Turn off Find my iPhone
  • Erase data and settings in Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings

My iPhone 5 qualifies for both these replacement programs and has both the problems associated with the replacements. My sleep/wake button works only when it wants to and my battery will suddenly jump from 50% down to 20% charge. While I do not look forward to the hassle, I do look forward to the free repairs and a working phone afterwards.

Is anyone else having these problems with their iPhone 5?
